Music has a calming effect on the wards. Dance provides an outlet for self-expression and helps them to focus better on any activity they participate in. Of late the wards are being exposed to pet therapy whereby they interact with pets. The aim of this activity is to help the wards develop skills in experiencing and managing themselves in unfamiliar places, living for short durations without their immediate care-givers and develop interpersonal relationships to support each other. This activity also enables the wards to develop social skills and interpersonal bonds.

ADVOCACY AND OUTREACH

Creating awareness about intellectual disabilities through networking

Kshitij joins hands with other like-minded organizations to raise awareness about intellectual disabilities among adults and engages in meaningful discussions to advocate for policies in their favour. Kshitij does this by organizing seminars and discussions on relevant issues, by participating in panel discussions and acting as resource for organizations doing work in a similar domain. Kshitij continues to widen the network and bring in diverse partnerships that can work towards rights of the intellectually challenged adults.

Kshitij's partnership with Municipal school

Kshitij’s closest partner is the school run by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) for special children, where one of the workshops is located. Every year, Kshitij takes in students from the BMC school and provides them with vocational skills training. Since the students come from low-income families, Kshitij raises funds for them through sponsorships so that they do not have to pay tuition. Kshitij organises arts and crafts events for the students on a regular basis and assists them in raising funds by selling the handicraft items they produce.

KATP – Kshitij Autism Therapy Program

Autism therapy program is an exclusive educational program started by Kshitij in 2018, which caters to specialized therapy needs of autistic adults.
